Salmon
The fishing got off to a very slow start due to an extremely wet Spring but not a drop of rain in June. However, we were all delighted to have a fish caught in May, which is the earliest on record and beats that set by Mr Scarr-Hall last year. No doubt he will try to regain his title as soon as possible!
We made up for the slow start in the season in the latter months, with August being our most successful in 5 years. We beat our 5-year average catch with a final figure of 218 salmon.
Sea trout
Numbers were down somewhat this year but records do show that catches are generally reduced during a successful salmon season.
Despite this, we finished the season with a total of 260 sea trout.
The 2008 season looks promising - some good sea trout have been seen spawning with hen fish of up to 9lbs in the Voshimid reds. We are just waiting now for the salmon to start spawning and then hopefully we will see some good numbers.
