Lochs around Amhuinnsuidhe Estate

Loch Voshimid

Loch Voshimid is situated at the end of the Meavaig track.   Statistically the most productive salmon/sea trout loch.   Voshimid is easily accessible with vehicle access to within two hundred yards.   There are two boats on the loch available to use for fishing.   The loch is fishable under most conditions except a gale; it fishes best with a south westerly wind and broken cloud.

River Voshimid

Vehicle access to Loch Voshimid, (or boat) to North end of the loch and then down the river, some two and a half miles to the sea.   Very rough walking with no path.  Only fishable with good water conditions.   The river can take two rods and can be great fun.

Weedy Loch

Weedy is located just above Loch Voshimid.   It is a relative small loch but in the right conditions can be very productive.   The loch has one boat available for fishing.   The most prolific lies are at the mouth of the loch and at the head of the loch.   The loch is fishable in most conditions except a gale.  Again the preferred wind in a south westerly.

Fish also tend to congregate in the pool beneath the dam; this can lead to some very productive fishing.

Loch Scourst

Loch Scourst is the first major loch that you drive past on the Meavaig track to Voshimid.   It has a large boathouse, and the loch is easily accessible with the track running beside its banks.   Loch Scourst is a good salmon and sea trout loch, smaller than Voshimid, which is the reason for it having only one boat.   It can be fished in all conditions including a gale from the bank.   Loch Scourst is traditionally fished at night for sea trout.

Loch Ulladale

A great favourite and can be good for both salmon and sea trout.   It has one boat available to fish from.   Requires a car trip to the dam at Loch Chilostair, then a three-mile walk on a well-defined footpath, with a steep descent into Loch Ulladale with one of the biggest overhangs in Europe and the eagles nests above you.

Loch Ghlinne

Mostly sea trout, usually of good size.  There is one boat on this loch.  It is a large body of water therefore the fish seem to be fairly well dispersed, however, there are three main areas in which fish are caught: at the mouth of the loch, at the head of the loch and around the island.   To get to the loch you have to travel by car to Loch Leosaid, then a walk of two and half miles on a well defined footpath, with a steep descent to Loch Ghlinne.   Good walking, wonderful views.

Loch Halladale

Salmon and sea trout.  In 1989 the second largest salmon to be caught on the estate was taken from Halladale weighing 17.5 lbs.   To get to Halladale go by road for about one mile towards Huishinish, park at the white post and then walk 400 yards to your left towards the loch.   This loch can be fished in most conditions.

Ladies Loch

As well as Ladies Loch there is Douglas pool and the Castle river system consisting of three main pools.  Please do not over fish them.   Please do not fish the sea pool for more than half an hour either side of high tide, and please ensure that all measures are taken not to foul hook fish in the sea.   The system is a very short walk from the castle and is largely used for early morning or late night fishing.

Mug’s Pool

Mug’s pool is on the river Ulladale at the head of a large pool or lochan, where fish lie and under certain conditions can be a virtual certainty!   Also, Weedy Loch with a very small boat and a good pool 200 yards above it.   To get to Mug’s pool drive to Voshimid and walk over the ridge to the left of Voshimid and down in the next glen is Mug’s pool.   It is about a two and a quarter mile walk over rough terrain.   There is enough fishing for one to two rods.
