The History of Amhuinnsuidhe Castle

Designed in the Scottish Baronial style by the architect David Bryce and built in 1865 for the 7th Earl of Dunmore, the Castle now functions as a prestigious venue for house parties.

The sale of the original North Harris Estate in 2003 inaugurated a new era of estate proprietorship. In what has been acknowledged as Scotland’s biggest friendly land buy-out, the 55,000 acre North Harris Estate was purchased in a joint bid by the residents of North Harris and Ian Scarr-Hall.

The new owner is committed to helping ensure the long-term environmental and economic sustainability of this exceptional estate.

A visit to Amhuinnsuidhe provides an insight into the historic and Celtic culture of the Outer Hebrides.
