FishingThe quality of the sea trout and salmon fishing on the Amhuinnsuidhe Castle Estate is unsurpassed. There are seven freshwater systems - Lochs Voshimid, Scourst, Halladale, Ulladale, Ladies, Brunabhal and Loch A’Ghlinne. The estate has an enviable reputation throughout the fly fishing world. It caters for the more experienced fisherman as well as the novice, for whom instruction and guidance are readily available. Except when the rivers are in spate, most of the fishing is done Hebridean fashion from a boat. There are five resident ghillies or stalkers to look after guests. Fishing is by fly only. The big sea trout start to run in June, with the salmon a week or two later. Weights are comparable with those found in similar waters in Scotland and Ireland, while numbers are generally greater. Sea trout average two pounds, with salmon averaging five pounds although, increasingly, salmon of up to fifteen pounds are being caught. The heaviest recorded salmon taken from Amhuinnsuidhe waters is 23 pounds and the heaviest sea trout 11 pounds. The best recent seasons have produced over 200 salmon and over 900 sea trout.
Excellent brown trout and sea fishing is also available to those staying at Amhuinnsuidhe Castle Estate. The Castle's boat is on hand for this purpose as well as for sea trips and visits to nearby islands and beaches. For up to date information on catch reports click here.
